About Christie Ma

Christie is a pre-licensed art therapist and counsellor in their final stage of training at the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. They are a queer, non-binary, and multiethnic Hong Kong-Canadian settler living on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xÊ·mÉ™θkÊ·É™yÌ“É™m (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish,) and sÉ™lilÌ“ilwÌ“É™taʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

Christie is passionate about trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive care for neurodivergent and gender-creative BIPOC children. They have experience working with themes of identity, trauma, anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, survivors of sexual violence, and suicidal ideation. 

In the counselling room, Christie offers an affirming, transparent, and open environment of creation and exploration. They focus on supporting clients with marginalized identities in safely exploring what it means to take up space on their own terms. 

Christie seeks to connect with you where you are at, and offer a collaborative therapeutic experience that honours your ways of knowing.

Art Therapy

Initial Consultation  15 minutes  Free

The consultation call is an opportunity to connect with Christie to share questions, learn about their approaches and practices, and discuss whether their services may be a good fit for your child.

Art Therapy   45min  $160 + GST

Art therapy is an interdisciplinary practice involving the creative process and production of imagery to express thoughts and emotions without words.

 

Visual artmaking is a gentle and powerful vessel for engaging the senses and tuning into our core consciousness. Each session is a collaborative experience offers us the space and opportunity to explore our sense of self and identity, and process difficult feelings or experiences at our own pace.

Adaptive and Modified Therapy

Letter Writing 

The therapist and client engage in long-term communication and through narrative letter writing. Occasionally, the therapist may offer the client letters from the perspective of a problem, skill, strength, or as a witness. The client is supported in a process of building and recognizing self-compassion, emotional awareness.

No time limit or urgent pressure. Non-cognitive exchanges including photos, memes, and art are welcome! 

​

$100 per hours of reading and writing.
